Hospital Policies

Appointment Policy

To allow ample time for all patients and scheduled surgical procedures, we operate primarily by appointment. However, emergency cases shall always receive top priority, which means that an occasional appointment delay is inevitable. Please realize that we make a sincere attempt to see each client on time.

For your convenience, our hospital does have day hospitalization appointments available. A “Drop off appointment” means that you can plan to bring your pet in the morning, and leave him/her with us for a couple of hours or as long as necessary. Once the doctor is done examining your pet, they or one of our veterinary technicians will give you a call to discuss any findings, make treatment recommendations, and give you discharge instructions. Our doctors may require that your pet stay at the clinic for part of the day if they need particular testing or specialized care (e.g. urine collection, x-rays, specific blood testing, monitoring, etc.).

There may be a nominal ward care fee for this service in addition to any other services provided that day.

Appointment Cancellation Policy

If you are unable to keep your appointment, please call to cancel at least 24 hours in advance. While we understand that things come up, we appreciate notice when you are unable to keep an appointment.  This allows other patients to be seen if you no longer need your appointment time.  

Because we want to help as many pets as possible, there may be a penalty after multiple no-call, no-show appointments (such as billing for a physical exam fee).

Patient Arrival Policy

For the safety of all animals in our care, we require that all vaccinations be up to date for animals being admitted into the hospital for the day for surgery, dental procedures, or for boarding.

For your protection, and that of others, all dogs must be on a leash and properly controlled while in the waiting area or exam rooms. All cats must be presented in an appropriate cat carrier or on a leash.

Prescription Policy

We are required by the College of Veterinarians of Ontario to have a valid ‘doctor-client-patient relationship’ prior to prescribing any medications. This means that your pet must have been seen in the last 6 months or less in order to receive medication.

Our doctors must also feel comfortable that a prescription is being made in the best interest of your pet’s well-being and safety. We have hospital policies regarding routine examinations and/or blood testing while on certain medications and may require your pet to see one of our doctors prior to prescribing a new medication or one that your pet has not received from us for a period of time.

Payment Policy

We require full payment at the time that services are rendered. For your convenience, we accept Visa, MasterCard, Interac/Debit cards, American Express, Apple Pay, and cash.
