Registered Veterinary Technician

Kate

It was Kate’s love for animals of all shapes and sizes that inspired her to become an RVT. She wanted a career where she could use her skills and knowledge to care for them while they’re sick or injured.

In 2018, Kate obtained her BSc in Wildlife Biology and Conservation from the University of Guelph. She then worked at a wildlife rehabilitation centre for two years before moving to Vancouver to complete the Veterinary Technology program at Douglas College, graduating in the spring of 2023.

Kate’s role in the clinic varies depending on the needs of the patients we see each day. Some of her jobs include chatting with clients about their pet’s medications and post-op care, monitoring anesthesia during surgeries, collecting blood samples and running lab work, taking x-rays, trimming nails, cleaning ears and more.

Kate’s goal with every patient is to treat them with the same care and kindness that I would want for my own pet. She is certified in Fear Free practices and she uses this knowledge to help reduce fear and stress in our patients while in hospital. She believes their emotional well-being is an important part of their overall healthcare.

Kate comes from a large family which includes her wonderful husband, parents, three siblings and in-laws. Outside of work, she loves to travel and explore new places, try new recipes, and spend time with family and friends.

Kate’s favourite quote is from her mom, which is “it all works out in the wash”. Meaning, don’t sweat the small stuff because it’ll all work out in the end.
